Microblading removal: laser eyebrow tattoo removal, saline and what to expect
The most effective and safest way to remove microblading is laser: several sessions, 4 to 8 weeks apart, that break up the ink so your body can clear it. Another option is saline removal carried out by a professional. Home remedies don’t remove it and can damage your skin.
What if I don’t like my brows? Start with a consultation
Before deciding how to get rid of unwanted microblading, think about the reason, because each method has its limits. A colour that looks too dark after 10 days is not the same as an old eyebrow tattoo that has turned grey or blue.
- If you had it done less than 6 weeks ago: wait. During the healing process the colour lightens a lot, by 30 % to 50 %. We explain it in when microblading colour settles.
- If the problem is small (a gap, slight asymmetry, a shade that’s a little dark), go back to the artist who did it: many things can be corrected at the touch-up.
- If the design is wrong, the colour has changed or the strokes are too deep, look for a centre that specialises in permanent makeup removal. Laser is the best option both for microblading and for any cosmetic tattoo on the brows you’re unhappy with.
If you’re not sure whether your brows can be fixed, it may help to read how to recognise microblading gone wrong. A good technician will always start with a consultation and a realistic treatment plan.
Eyebrow tattoo removal methods
Laser removal
The most effective method. It breaks the ink particles into fragments and the lymphatic system clears them little by little. It works for microblading, permanent makeup and body tattoos, even with old tattoo ink.
Saline removal
A professional works a salt and saline solution into the skin, using the same hand tool or machine technique, to «lift» the colour to the surface. Saline tattoo removal is a less invasive option for superficial pigment, but slow.
Waiting
The treatment is semi-permanent: over time it fades by itself. If the result isn’t serious, this may be the simplest route.
Can microblading be removed with laser tattoo removal?
Yes. Advanced laser technology removes cosmetic ink from the skin with good results on brows, lips and other areas. The laser emits very short pulses of laser light that the ink absorbs; the laser energy shatters the particles into smaller fragments and the body removes them over the following weeks. Laser tattoo removal mainly uses Q-switched and picosecond devices, and a precise laser lets the technician work close to your natural brow hair. The type of laser, the colour of the tattoo pigment and its depth all affect the result.
How many removal sessions will I need?
It takes several treatment sessions; complete removal in one session is not realistic. The number depends on the type and amount of microblading pigment implanted, its depth and your skin type: light work may fade in 2 to 4 sessions, while an old eyebrow tattoo may need more. Allow 4 to 8 weeks between sessions so the skin can recover and the body can clear the ink. That is your removal plan in a nutshell.
When can I start?
Wait at least a month after the procedure, until the skin is fully healed; an emergency removal on fresh, open skin is not something we recommend. After the first removal session the brows usually look lighter, although sometimes the colour changes shade before it disappears.
At BLUSH: we offer laser treatment to remove brow micropigmentation at €50 per session. First we assess your brow and tell you honestly how many sessions we expect and whether full removal makes sense, or whether it is better just to lighten it for a new design. How to remove microblading at home? What doesn’t work
The internet is full of home remedies: lemon juice on a cotton pad, white vinegar with warm water, baking soda paste with shampoo, or hydrogen peroxide. We’ll be clear: they don’t remove the ink, because it sits inside the skin and these products only act on the surface. At most they lighten the eyebrow hair a little or irritate the skin; in the worst case they can cause burns, marks or even a scar and make the result worse.
Don’t scrub or exfoliate the area hard either. That isn’t an easy way to remove it: it’s a way to wound yourself. The safe way is to see a qualified professional, who may also suggest a patch test before the first laser session if your skin is sensitive.
Can it be corrected instead of removed?
Sometimes you don’t need to remove it all. If the eyebrow design is good but the colour is too dark, one or two laser sessions may lighten it enough to correct it. If the design is too thin or small, it can be redesigned over the top. And if the old work is faint, microshading or hybrid brows can cover it. We assess it in person: every brow is different. Aftercare instructions: the healing process after removal
The removal process needs aftercare, similar to the care after the original procedure:
- First 24 hours. Don’t apply any product to your brows other than the one recommended, and avoid makeup.
- First few days. The area may be red, swollen or form a thin scab. Don’t scratch it.
- Days 3 to 7. Avoid getting your brows too wet, saunas, swimming pools and heavy sweating.
- Up to day 9 or 10. Apply the recommended healing cream or gel twice a day in a thin layer.
- From day 10. Sun protection on the area. The sun is the great enemy of treated skin.
If you follow these guidelines to the letter, the skin recovers well and you get the best results from your removal journey.
How long does it take to remove eyebrow tattoos?
With laser, anywhere from a few months to a year, depending on the number of sessions and how far apart they are. Without treatment, the brows fade by themselves over one or two years, although it is unusual for the colour to go entirely. If you want to know why it fades over time, we explain it in why microblading fades.

Microblading removal FAQs
How can I remove brow pigment quickly?
There is no instant method. Laser is the fastest removal treatment, but it still needs several sessions. Home remedies don’t work.
How can I tone down my brows if they’re too dark?
If the work is recent, wait until healing is complete. If it has already healed, one or two laser sessions can lighten it.
Does eyebrow permanent makeup fade away?
It lightens over the years, but it doesn’t usually disappear completely without laser.
Does laser eyebrow tattoo removal hurt?
You feel a brief heat or sting with each pulse. A brow session only lasts a few minutes.
Can I have my brows redone after laser?
Yes, once the skin has fully recovered. Many clients lighten their old work to have a new natural hair-stroke design done.
