Permanent eyeliner in Málaga: semi-permanent eyeliner that brings out your eyes
An eyeliner that doesn’t run, doesn’t smudge in the summer heat and looks just as good at eight in the morning as it does at midnight. Permanent eyeliner (eye micropigmentation) draws a semi-permanent line tailored to your eye, from an almost invisible lash line enhancement to a winged liner. What is permanent eyeliner?
It is a beauty procedure in which pigment is deposited into the skin along the lash line with a very fine needle machine (a dermograph). People often call it an eyeliner tattoo or tattoo eyeliner, but it isn’t a traditional tattoo: the pigment, unlike tattoo ink, stays in the upper layers of the skin and will fade over time, which is why it is kept fresh with a refresh session. In the PMU world you’ll see both permanent and semi-permanent eyeliner used for the same thing; strictly speaking it isn’t permanent.
It is a cosmetic treatment designed to enhance your eyes: it defines the shape of the eye and makes the lashes look fuller, without the daily application of eye makeup. It is especially convenient if you wear glasses, if your hand isn’t steady enough for traditional eyeliner, or if you do sport and don’t want your everyday makeup to run. It is a long-lasting eyeliner effect that saves you time on makeup application.
Eyeliner tattoo styles: choose the eyeliner look that suits you
Baby eyeliner
A fine line along the upper lash line, tight to the lashes. It doesn’t look like makeup: the eye simply looks more defined, as if you had more lashes. The most discreet option and the best one to start with.
Decorative eyeliner
A visible line, thicker and, if you like, with a small wing at the outer corner. The look of freshly applied eyeliner.
Shaded eyeliner
A line softly blended upwards with a gentle smoky finish. More intense, but without a hard edge.
Before we start there is a consultation to tailor the line to you: we look at your facial harmony, the shape of the lid, the angle of the eye and even the height of the brow, and we show you the proposed thickness and length. If in doubt, it is always better to start thin: adding is easy, removing is not.
What happens during the session, step by step
- Design. We talk about the style you want and mark the line that best suits your eye, to get the best result and improve the symmetry between both eyes.
- Colour. Usually black or a very dark brown, depending on your skin type and hair.
- Numbing cream. We numb the area with a topical anaesthetic cream for your comfort.
- Pigmentation. Antonella works the line with the eye closed and the skin stretched, little by little, checking the symmetry between both eyes.
- Follow-up session at 4 to 6 weeks. Once the skin has healed, we even out the line and correct any spots where the pigment didn’t take.
Antonella’s tip: if you wear contact lenses, come in your glasses on the day and don’t put your lenses back in for a few days. And don’t have a lash lift or extensions just before: better after the eyelid has healed.
Aftercare: how your eyeliner tattoo will heal
It is normal to have some redness and slight swelling around the eyes on the first day, and for the line to look darker than it will end up. In about 7 to 10 days the skin closes and the colour settles. In the meantime:
- Don’t rub your eyes or pick at the tiny scabs.
- No mascara, eye shadow or oil-based makeup remover on the line during the first week.
- Avoid direct sun, swimming pools, the sea and saunas for the first few days (in a Málaga summer, sunglasses at all times).
- Sleep on your back for the first few nights if you can.
- If you notice anything unusual, such as a possible allergic reaction, seek medical advice.
- Apply only what we recommend and wash your hands before touching the area: good hygiene lowers the risk of infection.

Permanent eyeliner FAQs
How long does permanent eyeliner last?
It is the area that lasts longest: as a guide, between 2 and 5 years depending on your skin and sun exposure, fading little by little. A touch-up every year or year and a half keeps the line crisp.
Does it hurt?
Numbing cream is applied first and most people describe it as uncomfortable rather than painful: a tingling or vibrating sensation. We stop whenever you need to.
What do my eyes look like afterwards?
A little swollen, with the line darker on the first day. Many people go back to their normal routine the next day; within a week the swelling has completely gone.
Can I choose the thickness and style?
Yes, from a fine line between the lashes to a winged or shaded liner. We design it and you see it before we start.
Can it be removed if I don’t like it?
Removing pigment so close to the eye is delicate, which is why we prefer to start thin and build up at the follow-up session if you want more. No artist can guarantee a perfect removal on this part of the eye. That way the risk of regret is minimal.

What are the pros and cons?
