Can you get microblading while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Microblading while pregnant is not recommended, and neither is microblading while breastfeeding. There are no studies proving that the pigments are safe in pregnancy, your skin is more sensitive because of hormonal changes and the colour holds less well. As a precaution, it is best to wait until after the birth and, if you are breastfeeding, until you have finished.
Is microblading safe during pregnancy?
The cautious answer is that its safety can’t be guaranteed, and that is why at BLUSH Estética we prefer not to carry out procedures that break the skin during pregnancy. This semi-permanent treatment opens very fine strokes in the skin and deposits pigment in the upper layer (we explain it in what layer of skin microblading goes into). Although it is a superficial cosmetic treatment, there are several reasons not to have microblading during pregnancy:
Lack of studies
No research confirms that the pigments are safe for pregnant women, because clinical trials aren’t carried out in this group. When in doubt, it is better to wait.
More sensitive skin
Hormonal changes make the skin react more during pregnancy, become inflamed more easily and make the session more uncomfortable.
Poorer results
With changing hormones, extra oiliness or fluid retention, the pigment can settle unevenly or change colour as it heals.
Risk of infection
Any treatment that breaks the skin carries a small risk of infection, and during pregnancy it is wise to avoid needing medication.
If you are pregnant and have questions about any beauty treatment or about the skin changes you are noticing, the most sensible thing is to ask your doctor or midwife, who know your case.
Can you get microblading while breastfeeding?
It isn’t what we usually recommend either. While you are breastfeeding your hormones are still changing, so the skin remains more sensitive and the pigment may hold less well. And if an infection or reaction did occur, treating it could be more complicated while you are nursing. That is why it is advisable to wait until you have stopped breastfeeding. If you still want it done sooner, talk to your doctor first and let us know when you book.
How long should you wait after pregnancy to get microblading?
| Situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Pregnant | Postpone the treatment until after the birth |
| After the birth, not breastfeeding | Wait at least until the postnatal period is over (about 40 days) and your skin and hormones have settled |
| Breastfeeding | Wait until you have finished breastfeeding or check with your doctor first |
| Trying to get pregnant | If you are planning, it is better to have your microblading and touch-up done beforehand |
Bear in mind that microblading isn’t a single appointment: after the first session there is a touch-up 4 to 6 weeks later. If you are trying for a baby, leave enough time to complete both sessions and the healing. You can see the whole process in the microblading healing stages, day by day.
Antonella’s tip: many clients come to us after giving birth because they want to skip the daily brow makeup with a new baby at home. It’s a good moment, but give your skin a few months: the result lasts longer once your hormones have settled.
What if I already had microblading before I got pregnant?
That’s fine: the pigment already in your skin is not a problem. The only thing to do is postpone any touch-up or annual refresh that falls during your pregnancy. You may notice the colour fading a little sooner because of the changes in your skin; it can be corrected when the time is right. Meanwhile, protect your brows from the sun, which also fades the colour: we explain how in microblading and sun exposure.
Tips for looking after your brows while you’re pregnant
While you wait, you can follow a few recommendations to keep your brows defined without treatments that break the skin:
- A good brow shape with tweezers or threading to define the shape.
- Brow makeup: pencil, powder or tinted gel to fill in gaps.
- Gentle everyday products; if you’re unsure about any of them, check with your doctor.
When the time comes, you can leave daily brow makeup behind with natural hair-stroke brows that last for months. See how long microblading lasts to plan ahead.

Microblading and pregnancy FAQs
Is it safe to have eyebrow permanent makeup during pregnancy?
There is no data to guarantee it, so it is recommended to postpone any micropigmentation treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Who shouldn’t get microblading?
As well as pregnant and breastfeeding women, it is not advised if the skin of the brow is irritated or broken, among other cases. We always assess this before the session.
I’ve just found out I’m pregnant: can I have my touch-up?
Better not. Postpone the touch-up or refresh until pregnancy and breastfeeding are over.
What if I had microblading without knowing I was pregnant?
Tell your doctor or midwife, who can assess your particular case, and follow the usual aftercare while it heals.
Do brows itch more if I have it done after giving birth?
The process is the same; we explain it in why eyebrows itch after microblading.
