When can I wear makeup after microblading? Eyebrow makeup 2 weeks after microblading

You can wear brow makeup again once the scab has come off on its own and the skin is smooth, with no flakes: usually from the second week, around 14 days after your session. The rest of your face can be made up sooner, from 24 to 48 hours, as long as you don’t touch the treated area.

Why you need to wait before you apply makeup to your brows

The treatment places pigment in the upper layer of the skin with tiny hair strokes. For the first days the brow area is an open wound: it is inflamed, forms a thin scab and then begins to peel and flake. If you put makeup on top, three things happen:

  • Increasing the risk of infection. Brushes, pencils and products carry bacteria onto skin that is still open.
  • Pigment loss. Rubbing the area or removing makeup drags the scab off too early and takes the colour with it. That affects how the pigment settles and leaves gaps.
  • Irritation. Powders, waxes and gels can cause reactions on sensitive healing skin.

Waiting is not fussiness: it is part of your aftercare and of pigment retention, and it is how you get the best results.

Timeline: what you may wear and when

When Makeup
Immediately after the procedure, first 24 to 48 hours Nothing on your face near the brows
Days 2 to 7 Foundation, mascara or lipstick are fine, taking care not to touch the brow. Remove makeup without going over the area
Days 7 to 10 The scab comes away around day 10. Still nothing directly on the brows
From the second week If there are no scabs or flakes left, you can wear brow makeup with gentle products
Before the touch-up (week 4 to 6) Come to your appointment with bare brows

Watch out for the ghost phase: between day 8 and day 14 the strokes look faded and you will be tempted to fill in your brows with a pencil. If the skin is already closed you can do it gently, but ideally wait. We explain why in the healing stages, day by day.

How long is the healing process?

Full healing takes about 4 weeks, 25 to 30 days. The surface closes sooner, when the scab falls off around seven to ten days, but underneath the skin heals for longer. It varies with your skin type, age and general health: oily skin is usually a little slower.

During the first two weeks your brows will appear to change a lot: darker at first, then flaking and itchy, then lighter in the ghost phase. It is all normal, and the natural color returns as the new skin settles. To know when the scab comes off, read when the scab falls off.

How to apply makeup on healed brows without spoiling them

Once you can wear makeup again, do it properly so you don’t lose colour:

  1. Clean hands and brushes. Wash your hands and use a clean or new brow brush.
  2. Gentle products. Brow powder or shadow is better than a hard pencil. Avoid products with acids or retinol around the brow area.
  3. No rubbing. Apply with light strokes. Don’t pick or rub the area during makeup application or when removing it.
  4. Mild remover. Water and a neutral soap or an oil-free remover, without dragging.
  5. Sun protection. Put sunscreen on top: exposure to the sun is what fades the pigment most, which matters on the Costa del Sol.

Antonella’s tip: most of my clients stop wearing brow makeup altogether once their brows heal. The goal is to wake up with them done; if you still use a lot of makeup, tell me at the touch-up and we can add more intensity.

Other aftercare instructions while you wait

As well as avoiding makeup on your brows, these aftercare steps help the pigment settle:

  • Don’t wet your brows more than needed in the first days or let the shower hit them directly when washing your face.
  • Apply a thin layer of moisturiser, as we explain in how to moisturise your eyebrows.
  • Don’t scratch or pull off the scabs even if they itch.
  • Avoid saunas, swimming pools, the sea and excessive sweating for about 10 days.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and sun and tanning beds.
  • Go easy on alcohol in the days following, as it encourages redness and swelling.
  • Avoid a chemical peel, microdermabrasion or laser treatments on the face: wait at least 4 weeks.

What if you had microshading or permanent makeup?

The timings are the same after shaded eyebrow permanent makeup (microshading or powder brows) or combined techniques. After any brow pigment treatment you should also wait until the skin is completely healed, at least two weeks, before you wear brow makeup. If you are curious about the shaded option, see microshading powder brows.

Yes, you can use foundation or mascara from 24 to 48 hours, as long as you don’t touch the brow or rub it when you remove your makeup.

What is the best thing to put on eyebrows after microblading?

Only the cream we recommend, in a very thin layer. No makeup, serum or brow shadow until the skin has healed.

What happens if I wear makeup on my brows too soon?

You risk irritation, infection and pulling the scab off early, which takes pigment with it and leaves patchy strokes.

How do I clean my brows during healing?

With clean hands and a gauze or pad moistened with water and a little neutral soap, dabbing without rubbing. Pat dry as well.

How can I tell when my brows are fully healed?

The scab falls off between day 7 and day 10, the skin looks smooth by the second week and healing is complete in about 4 weeks.
