How to moisturise eyebrows after microblading: aftercare step by step, without overdoing it
To moisturise your eyebrows after microblading, wash your hands, clean the brow by dabbing it with water and a mild, neutral soap, pat it dry and use a cotton bud to apply a very thin layer of fragrance-free healing cream 2 or 3 times a day. Do this for the first 10 days, until the flakes have fallen and the brows heal. More cream is not better.
Why do microbladed eyebrows need moisture while they heal?
Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup technique: after the microblading procedure, the skin of the brow has tiny incisions where the pigment has been placed. During the microblading healing process that skin dries out, feels tight and starts to flake. Light moisturising stops the scab from cracking or coming off prematurely, eases tightness and itching, and helps the brow heal evenly.
But the balance is delicate: if you apply too much cream, the skin can’t breathe, the scab softens and you can lose pigment, leaving the brows patchy. That’s why the key to your aftercare instructions is the amount.
How to moisturise your eyebrows after microblading so they heal well, step by step
- Hygiene. Wash your hands well with soap and water before touching your brows.
- Gentle cleansing. Dampen a gauze pad or disposable tissue with water (bottled, or boiled and cooled to lukewarm) and a little neutral soap. Wash around the brows and dab the brow area clean, in the direction of the hair, without rubbing hard.
- Drying. Gently pat with clean gauze to dry the area. Keep the area clean and dry, never damp.
- A very thin layer of cream. With a clean cotton bud, apply a thin film of fragrance-free aftercare cream. Dab gently, without rubbing. The brow should look barely shiny, not greasy.
- Repeat morning and at night, or up to 3 times a day, depending on your skin or whenever the brows feel tight. Some protocols suggest up to 5 times a day for very dry skin, always with very little product.

What to moisturise your eyebrows with while they heal
Use the product your artist recommends. In general, simple repair creams or ointments without fragrance or acids are recommended:
- Repair ointments such as Bepanthen or Cicaplast: just a fine layer of the ointment.
- Pure petroleum jelly (Vaseline), only a very light layer and only if you’re told to, because it is very occlusive.
- No regular face creams, serums, oils or products containing acids (glycolic acid, salicylic acid), retinol or vitamin C on or around the eyebrow.
Antonella’s tip: the most common mistake is using too much cream «so it heals better». An amount the size of a grain of rice is enough for both brows.
How long should you moisturise your brows? The healing period
The usual is to moisturise during the initial healing period, 7 to 10 days, until the scab comes off, depending on your skin type. On very dry brows you can carry on for a couple more days if they feel tight; on oily skin twice a day and fewer days is sometimes enough. At first the flakes can look like dandruff flakes; once the new skin is smooth with no flakes, you no longer need the cream: from then on what matters is SPF, because brows exposed to the sun fade sooner. To know when it comes away, read when does the microblading scab fall off.
Can your brows get wet after microblading?
Only as much as needed to clean them. For the first 10 days, keep the shower water from running straight onto the brow, don’t submerge your face, keep your face out of the stream and wash carefully around the brow area. If they get wet by accident, pat them dry. Prolonged moisture softens the scab and causes premature loss of pigment in the hair strokes, so your new brows should stay dry.
Other aftercare instructions to keep your brows safe while they heal
- Don’t pick or scratch the scabs even if they itch: picking can cause gaps. We explain why eyebrows itch after microblading.
- Don’t put makeup on the brow until it has healed; you’ll find the timings in when can I wear makeup after microblading.
- Avoid sun exposure, sauna, swimming pools and excessive sweating for at least 10 days.
- Once healed, use high-factor sunscreen on the area to stop the colour fading.
- Don’t exfoliate or use acids near the brow during the first month.
- Sleep on your back for the first few days, if you can.
It takes about 4-6 weeks to see the healed result, and anything that doesn’t settle properly is retouched at the touch-up session. Following these steps helps prevent complications and gives a more even recovery. All the phases are explained in the microblading healing stages day by day.

Frequently asked questions
How many days should I moisturise my eyebrows after microblading?
Between 7 and 10 days, until the scab comes off and the skin is smooth and fully healed on the surface.
What can I put on my eyebrows after microblading?
Only a fragrance-free repair cream or ointment in a very thin layer, or whatever your artist has recommended.
How do you clean your eyebrows after microblading?
With clean hands, water and a little neutral soap on gauze, dabbing without rubbing. Then pat dry and apply the cream.
What should you avoid after eyebrow permanent makeup?
Scratching, makeup on the area, sunbathing, sauna or pool, and acids or exfoliants on the brow.
Is too much cream bad?
Yes. Too much softens the scab and can cause the pigment to fade prematurely. Apply a thin layer only.
