Microblading lips in Málaga: what it really is (lip blush) and which technique is used
Lots of people search for «microblading lips», but the blade technique is only used on eyebrows. What is done on the lips is lip blush: a soft lip tattoo made with a machine. We explain the difference so you know what to ask for and what to expect.
Does lip microblading exist?
We have some bad news and some good news. The bad news: it doesn’t exist as such. That technique means drawing hair strokes one by one with a manual pen and a tiny blade, making superficial cuts where the colour is placed. It makes sense on eyebrows because it imitates hair; on the lips there are no hairs to imitate, and the skin is thin, moist and constantly moving, so blade cuts wouldn’t hold colour well and could mark the area.
The good news: there is a semi-permanent makeup technique, a cosmetic tattoo designed for the lips, which is what most salons advertise under that name. Lip blushing uses a machine with a very fine needle that places colour in the upper layer of the skin, dot by dot, much more softly than a regular tattoo. It’s the lip procedure we use at BLUSH, and we explain it in detail on our lip blush in Málaga page.

Brows or lips: how the technique changes
| Hair strokes (brows) | Lip blush | |
|---|---|---|
| Tool | Manual pen with a blade | Machine with a fine needle |
| How it’s applied | Fine strokes that imitate each hair | Soft stippling and shading that adds colour |
| Goal | Fill gaps and shape | Define, correct asymmetries and add colour |
| Area | The brow only | Lip line and full lip |
Compared with traditional tattooing, a lip blush tattoo is shallower and gentler: the aim is a natural lip colour, like slightly flushed lips, not a solid line. A good tattoo artist for lips works with soft layers rather than heavy saturation.
What is lip blush for?
- Defining a lip line that is undefined or has blurred over the years.
- Adding symmetry and correcting slight differences in the shape of your lips from one side to the other.
- Restoring natural lip colour if your lips are pale or uneven in tone, with soft or slightly more intense lip colors.
- Forgetting about lipstick in your daily routine and waking up with perfectly defined lips.
Be clear about what it doesn’t do: it doesn’t add volume. It can make lips look more defined, but it doesn’t make them fuller; that’s what lip fillers do, and a filler is a completely different treatment. Before starting, we hold a consultation to personalise the colour and shape with you: the aim is to enhance your natural beauty, not change it.

Does it hurt? How long does lip blushing last?
Pain level: lips are more sensitive than brows, so a topical numbing cream is applied before starting. Most people describe it as bearable discomfort. Here’s how one client who had brows and lips done with us put it:
“El tratamiento de cejas no me dolió nada y se aplica una crema anestésica para los labios así que no se siente casi (hasta me quedé dormida!). Ahora puedo salir sin maquillarme.”
“The brow treatment didn’t hurt at all and they apply a numbing cream for the lips so you hardly feel it (I even fell asleep!). Now I can go out with no make-up on.”
Claire M. · Booksy (translated from Spanish)
“He hecho cejas (microblading) y pigmentación de los labios. Me ducho y después ya no hace falta ponerme maquillaje (como en la foto añadido) 😊 Ella lo hace fenomenal todo. Perfectionista, la recomiendo 100%!”
“I had brows (microblading) and lip pigmentation done. I shower and afterwards I don’t need any make-up (like in the photo I added) 😊 She does everything brilliantly. A perfectionist, I recommend her 100%!”
Fia A. · Google (translated from Spanish)
How long lip blushing lasts depends on your skin type, the colour chosen and your aftercare. It’s long-lasting but not permanent: the colour will fade gradually, so we recommend an annual top-up to keep the shade. In the first days the colour looks darker and more intense and there may be some swelling, a little bruise in rare cases, and flaking; during the healing process a softer shade settles. Healing time for the surface is about a week.
Aftercare, risk and contraindications
Is lip blushing safe? Done hygienically with single-use needles and quality colour, the risk is low, but a few precautions matter:
- Moisturize your lips with the balm we recommend and don’t peel off the flakes.
- Avoid direct sun, swimming pools and lipstick on the area in the first days.
- If you are prone to cold sores, tell us beforehand and check with your doctor: an outbreak can affect how the colour takes.
- It isn’t done with active infections, wounds on the area, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you are allergic to any ingredient of the colours used.
